Try Poppy Z. Brite's "Exquisite Corpse", (That is, if you're not homophobic. If you are, skip it.) Max Brooks' "World War Z.", Joe McKinney's "Dead City", Whitney Lakin's "A Paintbrush In The Devil's Toolbox", or heck, if you like short horror fic, Try MY Novel:

In any case, I hope this helps. I'm always trying to find new horror authors to entertain me, so just ask if you ever need a list again. ;-)

I also like Stephen King and Clive Barker. Koontz has gotten away from horror but some of his earlier works were indeed spooky. It by King was very rough as was The Stand and Salem's Lot. Barker's Weaveworld and Imajica were way out there but excellent. King's Son Joe Hill has written some Ghost Stories that are excellent. The Heart Shaped Box will scare the pants off ya.

Well, I don't know if it's exactly horror persay, but I really enjoyed "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. Ummmm...........oh, "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux was also quite good. Don't compare it to the musical or the movie though. the book is a lot deeper. Have fun. Ciao!!!!

Right now, I love Patrick McGrath. He writes Gothic horror, very different from Stephen King. Psychological and atmospheric. Asylum is my favorite book of his.

Joyce Carol Oates has a nice dark side which you can check out in some of her Anthologies.
Another great one is Haunted by Palahniuk. Look out for the first story thought (yuk) it caused some people to faint when he read it publicly

The Amityville Horro or any Stephen King books, period. I know the Exorcist is supposed to make you not sleep for weeks, but I'm sure it's worth it.
