I don't know about mentalism, but you can simply joint any local magic classes that teaches you the basic of magic, that is, the art of misdirection.

You can learn basic tricks through the internet or books, or even youtube, yeah, just go search those tricks tutorial in youtube

But the most important thing is misdirection. It's being use in many magic trick, all magician must know and must use this skill when performing.

The first magic trick you should try is a simple coin disappearing. as you grab a coin off a table edge, you drop it off the edge and pretend to pick it up, while the coin has already drop on your lap. This is called lapping.

Now even a kid could figure this out. But with a proper misdirection skills, you can fool an entire bunch of adult with this simple silly trick
