In senior high school in the 1940's (WW2 years)-we loved the big name band songs, any and all-Harry James, Artie Shaw,Dorsey Brothers, Les Brown and His Band of Renown who played for Bob Hope
's overseas shows to the troupes....Loved dancing to those bands and enjoy the tapes of their music which I have to this day, some 60 years later!I tried to do some dancing to the tapes and about fell on my face which is not surprising since I can barely walk anymore!

I'd say "I'll Be Home for Christmas" a hope though a sad song for those guys and gals serving overseas.I too liked Stairway to the Star.

Its a song called Terry, all the girls in my class at school were crazy about it and were always singing it .Its a really sad song about a boy dying in a crash. There's an Amerciam one very like it about a bike crash by a girl band of the time, but I forget the name. All I remember is the line" look out look out look out" followed by a crashing sound.

Stairway to Heaven as well. There's a few more with fond memories but that one is my favorite.

I second "Rock Around The Clock". I still want to dance when I hear this song. If only.
