Hey, I was going to buy another gig of ram for my computer and was wondering if it matters whether or not if I buy two single modules of ram or buy a dual channel kit.

click on "scan my system" and see what your upgrade options are.
All a dual channel kit is is a pair of exact duplicate sticks of ram.
Nothing special about it other than that. If you buy 2 separate sticks that are identical you would have the same thing. That ram you show is excellant--I have bought tons of that stuff and used it in almost all my builds back when I was using Asus P4P800SE boards. I even sold a bunch of it on Ebay. Funny that, althou you are paying 4.99 for shipping twice buying 2 of the single sticks you still save over a buck compared to buying the pair and only paying 4.99 once for shipping. Its the same exact ram either way you buy it so save a buck and buy 2 single sticks.

This first of all depends on how many open RAM slots you have on your mother board. Secondly you need to make sure you buy the same (clock) speed as the ram that you already have. Lastly there is no difference between single modules and dual channel ram... Dual channel is meant for 64 bit OS's that will utilize both 32bit channels of the ram where as 32bit OS's only use half the available space.

Many motherboards typically require a matched pair of RAM for dual channel mode. Newer boards with new Intel chipsets have "Flex Memory Technology". They are capable of running RAM of different size in dual channel mode. Just get dual channel kit if your motherboard has no Flex Memory capability.

It wont matter a whole lot unless you are going to try to overclock your system. However Ram does act better in matched pairs, so if the kit is a good price then I would get it.
