For a band project I am doing, I need to listen to an album of wind ensemble music, and do a 2 page write-up on it. It must be an entire album from a CD. I thought classical music albums would be really easy to find online ... turns out either I was wrong, or I'm just really not that great at finding these things.

One of the problems with wind band music today is the availability of GOOD recordings of the literature. The worst thing going for the genre is the amount of purely awful recordings of concerts from tiny high school bands, giving people a poor impression of the wind band if they have never heard one before.

Generally, these good recordings are not freely available online due to copyright / ASACP / BMI / Seamus / etc. restrictions but you can often obtain free promo copies if you are in college or an instructor. Two places I know of to get good wind band recordings are Southern Music Company (www.southernmusic.com) and the University of North Texas wind symphony conducted by Eugene Corporon. Look for Corporon's recordings on Amazon.com or other music retailers.

Spend a few bucks and go for the Eastman Wind Ensamble's old albums....lots of British stuff also....they love band music....army units like "Coldstream Guards", "Grenader Guards"....Gustave Holst...avoid brand new stuff written as a job for composers!!!!!
