Spread some golden syrup on brown paper and lay it on the floor near to where you think their 'run' is, then just wait till they try to get across it ! ! !

Get a cat it's safer than having pest control in a home with a baby. In the winter mice will come in a house no matter how clean it is, they want to be warm too. Go to the Humane Society or ASPCA and get an adult cat, the mouse will be gone in no time. Another thing, you probably have more than one mouse. This time of year it is normal for them to try to move inside, and no fault of yours. I am not crazy about mice either but they won't hurt you. There is no reason to leave home, you'll have this kind of thing no matter where you are, it's nature. They are more afraid of you than you can imagine. Get a cat or 2 and you never have to worry again. Cats are safer then chemicals and mousetraps with children.

The trick is to make sure there is no other food source for the mouse, so sweep out your pantry, all shelving and clean any place where there might be crumbs (under the fridge or dishwasher?).
Check for mouse-eaten holes in all bags of anything edible (muffin mix, dog food, bird seed, etc!)
I used the black sticky traps that you can buy at Home Depot. We have a dog, so I didn't want to use poison or the snap traps. I put a couple pieces of cheesey popcorn in the middle. My dog kept eating the popcorn off the trap, so I put the traps out at night before we went to bed and them checked them every morning.
If you do catch the mouse in a sticky trap, it's kinda sad because they get stuck to the trap and you have to throw them in the trash (possibly while they're alive). It worked for us though.

Oh my gosh! Well I'm sure you're not dirty..mice get everywhere. It may be that a neighbor has just chased them out of their house over to yours. With a 16 month old...I wouldn't want to spray or put down poison...try one of those electronic sonic things that make the environment intolerable for mice. They emit a high frequency sound that makes them uncomfortable. they plug into a wall outlet...The advantage to chasing them out is that you don't have little mice corpses laying all over the place.
You could also go to the humane society or animal shelter and get a cat. Believe it or not...cats do rid the place of mice..tho' you'll want to make sure he won't bother your baby or create alergen problems. Plus, they have a tendency to drop the prize at your feet which is somewhat gross.
Good luck with that...mice can spread disease, fleas, and cause all kind of havoc with electrical wiring and such...so...go out tomorrow and buy a sonic pest control device. Hope this helps.

Sticky trap and put a little peanut butter in the centre so it has to walk on it. The sonic things do not work. I caught a mouse on my sticky trap about 6 inches from one of those things.

I agree with the cat idea, but many people don't want to keep cats. Best friends would be glad to loan you their cat for a few days, or it you don't know someone with a cat you may be able to get a "loaner" from your local animal shelter.
Get rid of that poison. Having mice is better than a sick child.

What are you putting in your traps? The best thing, believe it or not, is chocolate. Make sure its soft and well fixed to trap...i guarantee you will catch the little bugger. Good Luck

Keep using the trap but put some chocolate in it or maybe a raisin. It worked for me.

At this time of year, field mice quite often move indoors. Try baiting your trap with bird food (seeds, etc)
