I'm friends with a boy (just friends) and he's a really nice guy.

He's driving a new car and has offered to let me have his old car. It's a 2001 Mustang, and it looks and runs great. He wants to give it to me for free.

The car I drive right now is 20 years old and a death trap. Bad brakes, bad transmission, bad everything. It's gonna die any day now.

However everyone around me is warning me that this is a bad idea. I ask them why and they just say I'm naive.

But I mean...this guy is just a friend. He's a nice guy with good motives. He's offering to do something really great for me and I feel like I would be a fool to turn it down.

What do you think?

Ok, I don't know you at all but here is some advice that you can keep in your mind for the rest of your life. Ready?

Nothing in this life is free! He may not want money for the car but there is always something, maybe sex, a favour, or something else but you can be certain that someday there WILL be SOMETHING!!!

So, unless you want to feel obligated to return the "favour" someday whatever it may be then pass on it! I know a newer car for free is hard to pass up but believe me you will be making the correct decision.

Understand that you will never know what that favour would be that he now won't be able to ask because you didn't accept the car. You will never be able to say "I'm glad that I didn't accept the car because he asked me to do whatever". But live with the knowledge that you don't owe him anything or never have to feel obligated to do anything you don't want to do. Good luck and try and remember this advice as it applies throughout your life.

OK here's my thought.
Get on the Kelly Blue Book site type in the make, model, year, mileage, all th information you know.
Find out the price it's worth, if you have the money, give him the cash, get the pink signed and own it free and clear. NO STRINGS attached.
I've been in this situation before. It involved a nice piece of jewelry and when I wouldn't accept it from this guy, because 1. we weren't dating and
2. we were just " friends"
He got pissed and smashed it to pieces because I said no.
Just buy it from the guy that way you won't feel like you owe him anything and he can't HOLD the " gift" over your head.

best wishes!

talk about wanting to bang your bones, holy crap, giving you a car? and how long have you known him? either he is nuts or he really and desperately wants to get serious with you. Whatever you do dont go telling people if you do accept, people will despise you, you will sound like a bragging moron.
People will hate you and envy you , you will have no friends if you tell. But i bet he wants something from you, a relationship or its really weird. i wouldnt trust 100 percent.

But you might also feel like a fool if you take it & he feels like he owns you , or you owe him.

make sure you pay him for it!

there aint nothin down here free, except salvation, & nobody even believes that....

Ohhhhh, it's not "free", honey.........do ya really wanna know
the actual 'price'...???? - duhhhhhhhhhh.....
I'm not suggesting that you're 'naive' or anything....but why
don't you just "buy" it from him for a decent price, free & clear
title and all, just to make sure there are no 'strings' attached,
then you really don't 'owe' him anything but a "thanks".

I would follow my intuition. If you are sure he's just being friendly, then why not. If you think there is a chance it's more than that, ask him.
