Does anybody agree with me that there should be a consideration of how many minutes a bench player plays to win the 6th man award. An example is Ginobli and Terry, I like them, but I don't think they're really 6th men. I consider them starters who start the beginning of the game on the bench. They play a lot of minutes, so I don't consider them real candidates for the 6th man award.

no. a 6th man is a different kind of player. they are usually someone who is pretty good in 2-3 roles and is thus sent in to accomplish whatever role is needed. what you're talking about are rotation players, guys who are brought in to accomplish a certain role. that's why alot of 6th men are either big shooting guards or small forwards, not power forwards or centers.

My friend and i were just talking about this, i absolutely agree with you.
Ginobli and Terry check in within 5 minutes of the game, that should not count. I think 6th man award should only go to players that play UNDER 30 minutes.

You've got a good point. A bench player usually gets fewer minutes than starters, that's why they're not starters in the first place, but some coaches use starter-caliber players off the bench because they know they've already got a good team and are not too worried of a bad start.

those who play well off the bench will eventually get 30+ minutes playing time... therefore, there may be no more candidates for 6th man award if we apply the 30 minute rule..
