The short answer: No, she can't. The long answer: Virginity is a very complicated thing. Unlike what we've been taught since we were little, virginity is not a physical thing that can be take away from you. The hymen does not stretch all the way across the vaginal opening. Most of the time, it only stretches a few centimeters across, leaving plenty of space for things to come in (penises, tampons, etc) and to come out (discharge, menstrual blood, babies, etc). If you have sex properly, the hymen will not tear or break. Sex, even the first time, should not be painful. If you're properly lubricated (read: Use extra lubricant! Most girls do not create enough on their own) and aren't careless and rough, it should be fine. The hymen DOES NOT BREAK during sex if it's done right. It is only stretched. Virginity is a concept, not a physical thing that can be checked or stolen. /You/ define when you lose your virginity, not someone else. If you want it to be define as whenever you insert something into the vagina (including tampons), go ahead. If to you it means only when you are penetrated by a penis, then that's what it means. And while no one can define virginity for you, you cannot define virginity for anyone else. It is your definition which applies only to you.

In the correct sense of the word "virgin" the answer is no, but in some cultures having a broken hymen (the thin layer of skin around the vaginal opening) means that she's sexually active even if she even if all she did was take a fall (a common way to have the hymen break for a lot of young women and girls) .

The correct sense of the word "virgin" is someone who has never had sex.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well.
