Rachel,
Many apartment owners have had a lot of people leave without paying their rent, sometimes when they are very far behind. So now, more and more apartment managers have to require a credit check, which you will have to purchase and present in order to be considered for an apartment. This is especially true in better neighborhoods.

Most apartments run a credit check which require a social security number. They also run a background check which will require a drivers license. They have to be sure that you are at least 18 to rent to you.
