The Nuclear Regulation Committee is responsible for issuing licenses for nuclear power plants.

This committee has Congressional oversight and in the past the issuing of licenses has been interfered with by politicians. The same people that are against using fossil fuels are often against nuclear power plants.

My personal problem with nuclear power plants is that it doesn't fall under the free market category. It is subsidized by the government. I believe that the free market should decide what fuels should be used to fuel the power plants.

There's no problem in my opinion with government being part of finding alternative energy solutions and providing seed money and R&D funds but the truth is, nuclear power plants are a proven technology and the government should leave it up to the free market to decide whether it's more prudent to build nuclear power plants or those powered by gas, oil, coal, wind, or solar.

This is not to say that local pollution and safety issues should not be taken into consideration. That just makes good sense.

in case you attempt to entice some ethical assessment approximately American nuclear means plant life and Japan's modern problems, sorry, you're falling flat on your face. If united statesa. suffers a 8.9 earthquake and massive tsunami besides, we could have extra advantageous problems to safeguard than a broken nuclear means plant. Frankly, that the plant life are not broken extra advantageous than they're is a testomony to the technologies used to construct them. Nuclear means is sparkling and occasional-priced. as quickly as we experience a matching double catastrophe as Japan's, i might concern approximately leaking radiation... If i'm nevertheless alive it somewhat is.
