Because men do not want to have to deal with relatives that they may not really get along with or like. Such as in-laws, if there was some sort of friction before the man married the woman with her parents, then that friction will still exist. Or the stereotypical aunt who always wants to kiss you. Most guys do not want to deal with that. If they can’t have fun, if they feel that they will be outnumbered (like it’s all of your relatives vs. him) or if it’s a hassle they aren’t going to want to go.

A lot of times, at least for some families, holiday time means spending time with people you may not know well or don't like, but you have to pretend do and make small talk and get through the day. It's not always considered fun by all.

Means they have to help with something. And you know men ={ We are traveling and have a six hour drive. I asked my husband to hit Costco and pick up some wine, and just to put the clothes out he wanted washed, and he bitched like he had to cook the entire dinner.
