The painting answer is good. A creative outlet can really help. I'm a poet, so I often turn to verse. If you have an expressive outlet already, you may want to look to it.

You may also need someone to talk to. If you have a close friend to confide in, this might be a good time to give him/her a ring.

Be well. :)

Any of the above are good ways of distracting yourself but somehow if you dont resolve it internally, the pain might surface once too often. You need to understand that the break up is not your fault and it has nothing to do with REJECTING you etc. Most of the pain is because of low self esteem after the break up and of course the "breaking up" of a routine. So you will need to find a new routine while also internalising the break up and understanding that you are "Still what you are"-a loving human being and maybe the circumstances didnt pan out...time will heal...think with your head rather than heart for sometime.
By the way im going thru similar situation...so i feel your pain.

If you are trying to get over a breakup, getting together with friends, going places, starting a new hobby and making positive changes can help take your mind off things. Helping others is also a good way to stop focusing so much on how you feel. That is why I am here, maybe if I try to give others some sound advice, it will keep me from thinking........

You need to keep yourself busy so you do not think about it. Go out with friends, take a class, join the gym, volunteer, join a club. There are all sorts of things that you can do to keep yourself busy. It will take a while but you will start to think of other things before him. Staying busy will keep your mind occupied.
