I think Uruguay is also a great modern coutry like others country.....
i started hear about this country when i watches world cup

The main sport in Uruguay is football. The Uruguay national football team is one of only five nations to win the FIFA World Cup on two or more occasions. In 1930, Uruguay hosted the first ever World Cup and went on to win the competition, defeating Argentina 4-2 in the final. Uruguay won the 1950 FIFA World Cup as well, famously defeating the favored hosts, Brazil, 2-1 in the final. Uruguay is by far the smallest country, population wise, to win a World Cup. Out of the World Cup winners, the nation with the second smallest population is Argentina (winners of the 1978 and 1986 editions) who currently have just over 40,000,000 people according to the latest estimate; the 2002 census has Uruguay's current population slightly under 3,400,000. The Uruguay national team has also won the Copa América 14 different times, a record it shares with Argentina.

I am from South Africa. I had known where your country was on a map, since I was a little child, but never much else. Somewhere during my childhood I got a picture Atlas, which had a picture of a man on a horse in a pampas like setting. In that (and the few sentences of description) I got the impression that Uruguay was a lot like northern Argentina, but a bit poorer. I saw pictures of Montevideo, with pretty old buildings and plazas. Last year when I and my wife visited Argentina, we really wanted to hop over (especially the heritage site along the Rio de la Plata, but just could not fit it in..unfortunately. Also the options to get there from Buenos Aires were all on the expensive side. Nobody there could advise me how to go like "normal people" rather than tourists). But because we considered visiting, we read a bit about the country. I think Uruguay won the world cup in football a few decades ago.Uruguay also played Rugby against South Africa a few years ago. I know beef is a favourate in Uruguay, and I know there are very pretty beaches to the east of Montevideo.
That said, unfortunately, I think the average South African, if you ask one on the street, will not even know that it exists. Most educated people will know it's in South America, kind of near Argentina and Brazil. They may however confuse Uruguay and Paraguay, because the names sound the same, and they are of similar size, close to each other. Having spend time in Britain in the past, I can tell you not too many people know too much about Uruguay either, though most people will probably be able to guess that it is Spanish speaking, and somewhere in South America. I somehow don't think you'll even get that bit of trivia, very often, in the US.
Don't despair because most people do not know about your country. I sometimes wish people didn't know about mine at all, rather than pretending that they knew, and offering all kinds of wisdoms. My own impression is quite favourable, that it is beautiful, relatively developed, good cuisine and peaceful. I've since discovered that "normal" people cross out of Buenos Aires via Tigre, so that's what we'll do next time. (There are no flights to Montevideo from my country).

To tell you the truth, the vast majority of Americans don't think about Uruguay much if at all. I have known where it was on a map since I was a kid but not much else. I did meet a very beautiful woman once who was born there but has lived in American since she was a child.

Hi ,
I am from India and I have seen and read quite a bit about your country.
I feel it is a very beautiful country with a rich cultural heritage. It's capital city is a teeming metropolis just as any other south american city.
Overall, I guess a cool place to visit!!
