I don't mind it if someone slacks off and gets paid the same as me. However, in order to stabilize the economy, those who don't work will be sent to prison, so that the system doesn't collapse.

Big corporations need to be controlled...It,s hard to eliminate social classes...It,s really almost imposable...We do have a form of equality but we need to work on it to make it better..We need to do some restructuring of our present government...We really need to have election reform...

No I love it. Just about everybody in the USA prefers it to Communism. In an ideal world communism would work but we don't so Capitalism is the most functional system. DR L.--If you can come up with a more functional system in practice I'll convert to it. Till then I'll be a capitalist. JJ--Those who don't work will be sent to prison eh? for what crime? You can't just send people to prison cause they won't work (already planning a pogrom). Since you hate our economic system so much JJ, you should go to Cuba or Venzuela till you appreciate how good life really is here in the USA and quit griping in the form of a question on Y!A.

I want to excel, I want to work my way to a better life. I cannot do that under your ideals. Worse yet, what if I were the only one in my commune that worked the hardest, all that would be wasted on those who choose to do less than what is required.

Haven't you ever worked somewhere when a few employees slacked off and got paid the same as everyone else? No matter how hard you worked you never got any more or any less than those who worked the least.

I wouldn't want you to work for me, if you only work to satisfy the requirements and pick up the slack for those who can't even do that, then there will never be real improvement just the basics day in and day out.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? I work hard for my money; I work 40+ hours a week in a dangerous enviornment and I like to get an hour's pay for an hour's work. Most welfare recipients can work, but they choose not to because is easier to get food stamps and unemployment pay rather than get out and finding a job.

So no, I do not hate the current economic system of America; in fact, the economic system of this country is the best in the world, that's the reason so many people cross the border (legally and illegally) to come to work here.

THAT'S MY FINAL ANSWER.

I don't know. I went from having nothing other than the clothes on my back and my brain to having a nice house, a boat and a successful business. I studied hard, went to a good college because I had the grades from studying hard, served my country to pay for school, started a business with a loan from the Navy which has long been paid back, bought a house and have since restored it and paid it off and am doing well. I feel like I sacrificed and worked hard. Why should the government feel like they can take my hard work away from me?

I still want to know who decides who goes to jail. They're going to be the one with the power. Which makes it unequal.

The United States is still the best place for opportunity in the world. I've lived in other countries. I have my favorite places but there is still something exciting about the US. You just *think* its declining. The opportunity is here to succeed or fail and guess what--it's up to go. Be very thankful that you have the freedom to express yourself. The revolution started here.

If you still feel like leaving, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Communism and socialism worked well for the Soviet Union, North Korea, Vietnam, and China. Just as long as you don't value your freedom of speech, your right to free movement, Your right to assembly, the benefits of a free press, the right to worship as you choose, protections against search and seizure, your right to a speedy trial judged by your peers, the right to own property, and all of the other rights to Freedom that we all enjoy in this Great Country called the United States of America. You are right when you say all of the people are equal in those countries. They are all poor and hungry with poor health care and no opportunities due to oppressive governments who take and take for their own power. As for Big Corporations not existing. Fidel Castro got rid of all corporations and now look at his country. People there would actually risk their lives and the lives of their families to cross the open sea on home made rafts just for the chance of freedom. Hundreds were shot dead trying to run across the no mans zone to freedom from east to west Germany. So just think what you will give up when you give up your freedoms. As for me, I will die defending my rights and freedoms and yours as well before I ever think of giving them up.

I agree with you about the evils of the system. But putting people who wont work in jail seems pretty rough.Maybe we could learn more about these people and come up with some other solutions. What do you say?
