If there is such a thing as luck, we do not live in a universe of "law and order". No matter how hard we work, bad luck can occur and all our efforts are wasted. We are all victims of "good luck" or "bad luck", if luck exists. You better damn well keep your insurance paid up.
Personally that is all B.S. Only the inexperienced and unenlightened can accept the idea of accepting helplessness as their fate. As to your question, people make/create their own lives. If being successful, wealthy or healthy is your definition of luck, then people create their own luck.

I believe there is such a thing as simple, dumb luck. I also believe that some people are lucky because they put themselves in the POSITION to be lucky. The guy that wins a HUGE jackpot playing Craps has probably spent HOURS AND HOURS of his time, playing Craps. The woman who finds a really TERRIFIC husband has been out there, LOOKING.
All the things you mention go under the term of BAD luck... Again -- sometimes it just happens, but sometimes people do put themselves in the way of bad luck. A woman walking down a street by herself in a bad section of town -- well, she isn't ASKING for it -- she should be able to walk in SAFETY no matter WHERE she it -- but she's not being smart either.
I do believe in luck -- good and bad -- and I do believe that yes, sometimes, people can make their own luck -- or at least give it a helping hand!

I don't think their is such a thing as luck. When rape, sexual abuse, murder happens to a person is that because they had bad luck? No it's the fact that someone with no regard for humanity committed the horrible crime. It's got nothing to with the victim's luck. On that note if the person gets caught and goes to jail, it's not because he was unlucky it's because he committed a crime and needs to pay for it. Being born to riches/poverty doesn't automatically make you rich or poor. It does give you the inclination to wealth or poverty. I know of one person who is broke when his parents left him a lot of $. He didn't use it properly and now it's gone. I grew up in a 3 bedroom farmhouse with 7 brothers and sisters. I went to college, but none of my brothers or sisters went. I have an averge life-average $. I have one brother who makes $30,000 a month. He has no education but has worked really hard and learned what he could about $. He started many companies that failed, and finally found what works for him. It's not his good luck that made him that way. I had the same opportunities as him. (He even gave me the opportunity to get into his current business). My lack of being a risk taker made it so I held back when he tried. It's not my bad luck that made it so he makes more than me. It's not hi good luck that made him make more money than me. It's his hard work and ingenuity. I think that when good things happen it's because someone somewhere made it happen. When horrible things happen it's because someone somewhere caused it to happen. Not necessarily that the person who had the horrible things happen made it happen to themselves, but someone caused the horrible thing.

Hard to say if there is such a thing as luck. If there were, I would reason that the very act of making luck means luck did not manifest, but ones efforts of "making" generated the results.
There's a book called "The Secret" which asserts that everything that happens to you is a direct result of your thoughts. It goes like this: If you really feel like you are going to be murdered, or really feel that you do not want to be murdered - should either of those feeling persist, you will be murdered. Apparently the negation of something in thought does not keep it from happening. "Murder" and "Not Murder" are exactly the same thoughts.
But I paraphrase the book, and do not necessarily agree.

I hope this is not too long or too boring an answer.
Things happen in the material realm of existence that are influenced by things that happen in the quantum realm of existence. And things that happen in these two realms of existence are influenced by things that happen in the virtual realm of existence.
Sounds kind of confusing doesn't it. Well here is the essense of what I said. There is a first cause, a creator, or god if you prefer. This entity, this being, this spark, this first cause, this god has no power to exist in the material realm yet since it created it, it can create vessel's within the material realm to serve as channels in order to transmit experiences from the material realm through the quantum realm to the virtual realm where it resides.
You may not agree with me on this but I think this is kind of cruel, selfish and lame myself.
For many Milenna there have been untold millions who would have you believe that "God" is all powerful, all knowing, all wonderful... But that is just Bullship!!!!
The Universe that you and I share and experience is nothing more than a selfish, ego centered, self gratifying hope for fulfillment and pleasure.
God is a Wimp!!!
And I am being very tolerant, kind, generous and as many adjectives as you may wish to assemble here with him/her this time.
It will not happen again. I will not allow it!!!

people aren't raped or abused or handicapped because they wanna be or because the way they acted called for that horrendous situation. things happen so spontaneously and unexpectedly.
but then again, there are people who bring bad luck upon themselves because of the way they act. ie) you dirty dance with this guy and kiss him, and he takes you home b/c u don't have a ride. You have no intention of sleeping with him, but he ends up raping you. well...then why'd you give him mixed signals and ride his f*cking car? are you that stupid? but im not saying that that justifies your being raped....its just, some things can be avoided if you're smart enough. ;-)
God bless you all!
