who might he be refering to?
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Other than Ron Paul, is any Repub calling for the abolishment of any of the programs you mention? No. Please try to think, and not just regurgitate nonsense you read on the web.
No serious politician is trying to abolish any of those programs. They are however trying to make them more economically viable.
To address the points raised by others: Eisenhower was a moderate Republican. Yes, it's too bad the religious right has gained enough power in the Repub party to veto any candidate which doesn't share their views (or at least profess to share their views.) Likewise, the Dems have been hijacked by the radical left, as we see this year where candidates are racing each other to declare defeat in Iraq.
The primary system is flawed, and gives too much power to formerly marginalized groups in each of the two major political parties. But, this system has led to the Repubs winning of the last 10 prez elections (the Dems being forced by the anti-military left to support candidates like Humphrey, McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Gore and Kerry). So, the Dems have more to worry about.

President Eisenhower was a legitimately greatt American.
I consider him in league with Washington, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.

that dwight was pretty bright...
here is what he had to say in his farewell speech in 1961:
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

That was back in the day when being a conservative meant something. Eisenhower was a great man as were most Republican presidents until Reagan.

Rove.
People being tricked in to voting for people who do not have their best interest mind.
"When I say Dem or Republican I mean most not all"
Examples.......
I know so many farms that won't vote for Dems because they are anti farmers. Dems typically pro farm
Union works that vote republican because they are pro business Dems typically pro union
Small business people voting republican because of tax cuts.
Don't realize most republicans are pro wall street over main street!
middle class people that vote republican because they want lower taxes. Don't realize that Reps lower the tax for the right and don't want them to have free or reasonable health care.
Pro life people vote republican because they are anti-abortion. Republican are pro death penalty and pro war!!
