To get a good role in Music Man you need to sing and dance well. You should watch the film which will give you a real good idea on how things will go in your production. Many films are very different from the stage productions, but the one starring Shirley Jones is pretty good.

You'll likely have to sing a portion of a song for your audition. I would watch the film first, see which characters you're interested in, figure out whether or not you can sing the role, then come back and ask for specific advice. If you take voice lessons you already know about this, if not you will need a lot of help. Get it asap.

Zaneeta is a fun but not huge role and she does not have any singing solos. Eulalie Shinn is fun too if you're not afraid to be the straight person that people are laughing at. In fact all the pick-a-little ladies are fun.

Starving Artist got the plot, if you want more details, google it and read up. Rent the movie and study the characters, study what they re like, their actions, how they speak, how they carry themselves and such. To get a better role, practice. You can read parts of the script and get the music on line. To nail an audition, you have to be outgoing and professional. Practice a monologue or just read in front of a small group (parents will do the trick) or just read out loud to yourself so you get comfortable reciting things in front of others. During the audition don't just crack up or get embarrassed if you screw up, just take a breath and start over. The director wants to see that you are not only talented, but will take the show seriously. Also, if a mistake happens, go with it. Smile and move on. If someone else makes a mistake, don't laugh at them. Help them (stay in character!) to get back on track. This will really impress the director, trust me. This may be a little excessive if its a school play, (i used to do Broadway and off Broadway so I'm used to giving advice to people doing the same) but if you put your mind to it and really try your best, you'll do great!

PLOT::::

man comes to town. man cons town out of money by selling the people instruments and saying he will make a boy-band. man falls in love with town librarian. man tries to run away cuz he knows nothing about music, but then he comes back and everyone loves him again and things are happy!!

it's a really fun musical and has a lot of fun songs. I would suggest researching the characters online a bit (wikipedia!!!) and deciding which one sounds the most interesting and try for that one! and remember to have fun at the audition!! sometimes that can be the key to landing a decent part.
