I don't know about the blacks and whites. But i could say this is happening in Asian countries where the disparity (racisim is a disparity) is in the name of caste. The so called upper caste house owner will never allow the lower caste people(even though the lower caste is economically well off) to take the house on rent. In areas where upper caste people are clustered(normally in posh areas of any metro), it will be difficult for lower caste people to get a house on rent or on outright purchase. In India, even the upper caste group, tries to differentiate caste and racism as two diffrent aspects (eventhough the kind of treatment in both these cases are same). The pain of racism or casteism could be understood only by those who are afflicted by the system and not by those who are probagating for whatever good reasons behind it.

The reason behind why the upper caste/whites are not allowing to live in the same block is nothing but mind block only and there could be no more reason for it. In India castesim is followed, becasue it is the fundamental belief as four Varnas (four groups). So, in India, it is part of religious belief, and hence no question of challenge.

whites and blacks live on the same blocks in my village (largest one in the world). We have people from all walks of life and it's very diverse. sure, there are those racists out there but they're outnumbered. Because my village is so diverse, I'm sometimes shocked when i see an all-white/all-black/all-Asian/all-Hispanic community.

Down here in Florida it's the Puerto Ricans who are the majority, even though the census says otherwise. But yeah they've got their section in town. And especially in school. Racism is everywhere and I don't think it's pessimistic to say that it'll never go away. It's just one of those things.

Maybe it's because of the feeling of the culture they live in. I have a friend who is African American, and we accept eachother regarding our race. Although my brother is racist and it's so annoying.

So are you claiming that a non-institutionalized, self-segregated, mutually agreed upon, society is racist because they choose to live with people who are much more likely to be their family and friends? Crazy overly-PC liberal?
