On facebook, if I don't confirm a friend request, will it disappear automatically after a while?

No, it will remain until you either Approve or Ignore it.

Click the ignore button and the friend request will no longer be visible.

It has never happened to me, and I've left some for awhile. So now I just decline the offer.

nope they will just sit there in your pending folder and never go away until you respond
