Assume question might be:-
(3/2) (x - 5) - (1/4) (x + 24) = 0
(6)(x - 5) - (x + 24) = 0
5x - 54 = 0
x = 54 / 5

What is x=5???? Is it x-5, x+5, or something else?

Assuming it's x-5...
3/2(x-5)-1/4(x+24)=0 ...multiply by 4
6(x-5)-(x+24)=0
6x-30-x-24=0
5x=54
x=54/5 = 10.8

3/2(x+5)-1/4(x+24)=0
1.5x + 7.5 - .25x - 6 = 0
1.25x + 1.5 = 0
1.25x = -1.5
x = -1.2 = -6/5

check:
3/2(x+5)-1/4(x+24)=0
3/2(-1.2+5)-1/4(-1.2+24)=0
3/2(3.8)-1/4(22.8)=0
5.7-5.7 = 0
0 = 0

since this is true, x = -6/5
