For a lot of people yes, the media is responsible for if a girl is size 12 or bigger that are 'fat' and there for not pretty.
I however don't listen to what others say, if I see something beautiful it's because I think it's beautiful not because someone told me what to think.

Unfortunately it does. Mostly I think it's a negative influence. You never see runway models talking about their great personalities. And runway models in general are kind of a shambles. Did the greek sculpters carve stick women? No, by god! They drew curves. Did the renassaince painters paint droopy faced women in designer clothes? No. They painted unabashed beautimous human hedonism at it's finest. Now, that was beautiful. These days anything female is used to sell everything from car insurance to gum.. and it's degraded "beauty" to mean simply "sex appeal we can use to sell things." It has turned Adonis into Oprah, for god's sake..

Well, the skinny super model, the blond bombshell, and so forth have been portrayed for the last few decades as the epitomes' of beauty, and hasn't fallen yet, regardless of the controversy... so clearly somethings working.

Heck yes. Just look around you, in high schools, in young people's minds, in the way people are eating. It happens mostly in children and teenagers, they are most vulnerable to believe the lies that the media is telling us about how skinny we should be, what our hair should look like, what clothes we should wear, etc. Once it infects one child's mind, they go on to tell their friends and then peer pressure kicks in and soon they're all doing it.

I'm not human, so I'm immune.
Seriously, the media has very little impact on what I perceive as beauty. For example, I don't pay one scintilla of attention to celebrities, not one iota. Were you to ask me what I think of some beauty queen, I couldn't tell you. I may have seen her, but I wouldn't have linked a name to her.
I drove my wife nuts, God rest her soul. I'd keep asking, "Who is she? Who is he?"
