You did not say what state you were from, some allow learners and farmers permits at 15.

I can tell you this applies to all 50 states:

Any road that is open to the public is subject to the same laws, regarless how well travelled it is.

Legal and OK, as in overlooked by authorities, are two different issues. If you don't have a license or a learner's permit and a licensed driver you are breaking the law by operating a vehicle on a public road. Even a back road in Hazzard county.

Private property is another issue. My friend was driving alone at 12 on his family farm. That was perfectly legal.

If they are a licensed driver (some states do allow 15 year old to get a permit or license) or has a permit and follows state laws like having another licensed driver in the vehicle. It is NOT legal unless you're following the law. Just b/c you're on a back road doesn't make it okay. Although, a lot of ppl do this. You could still get in trouble if law enforcement found out.

Not legal but many rural/farm communities law enforcement let it pass as most families need the childrens help to bring crops in and such. you may want to check with local enforcement officials in your area though. The only time it is legal for a 15 yr. old to drive, even with a parent, is if they have earned their learners permit and can drive when another licensed driver is present. I was driving all by myself as early as 10 but fairly often by 12 because I was raised in the middle of nowhere and the men in the fields needed part and tool running done for tractors and such. Again, in my community, if you were careful and stuck to back roads it was largely accepted as helping with adult responsibility.

Any road that is owned by the state, county or city is illegal to drive on without a driver's license and insurance!

They can drive on private property. For example, if you knew someone who had a ranch with a 5 mile private driveway in, that would be legal.

No, it is NOT legal. It is however legal to drive on your own property. I learned to drive at a young age.

I was told to turn off the electric fence and to remember to shut the gait so the cows could not get out!

Those were the good old days when people had property and not just blacktop around them!

to all you people who said no stop to look at other states regulations at 15 'in florida' you can legaly drive a car with a parent or adult over 21 with a somewhat clean record as long as you have a driving permit, i'm 15 and my parent forced me to get mine so i would be able to get my licence at 16. but evem at 15 i can drive on the main road without bending any laws

I believe if it's a private road on a private property you can drive there at any age you want. But public roads, you need a license or permit.

I think it depends on the state. In TX, you have to have a permit to drive at 15 and that's still with a licensed passenger.

Unless the back road is on private property, the same driver licence is required as for highways and city streets.
