I agree with JJ in that America will never be described as anything remotely resembling communism. America was founded on the belief of freedom, and the majority of Americans would still give their lives today to have freedom.

And JJ, perhaps communism would work if you were ruling it...but what about when you die? Some power-hungry dictator would just take over and then things would be worse than they are right now.

JJ, how can the government "not have too much power" when they would be controlling every aspect of your life?

Communism as originally described by Karl Marx was a system in which the working people ruled. Everyone was supposed to work, no one was better than anyone else, and all wealth was equally distributed. However, pure communism has never existed. Examples of communistic governments would be the former USSR, China, and Cuba.
And for the record Hitler was facist not communist; in fact, he hated communists.

Communism is a system of equality where everyone is treated equally. There are no examples of a true communist country because all current communist countries twist the ideas to benefit the elite as opposed to the people. It hasn't worked yet, but it can when I become president!
private15ft, explain how Corporate America is communist?
I don't believe that all people are greedy. There are good people in this world. And, ideally, the government would not have too much power and will not be a dictator. America will be communist when a revolution happens a few years from now.

To Private 1: Hitler was communist?Wow, the ignorance.
Anyway, back to the question. Communism is the climax of capitalism. The real government of the people, the real "one car" in each garage, food on every table, and real honest pay for honest work. One "common" goal, prosperity for everyone not just a few.
There are two excellent examples of successful "communism": Sweden and China. Up and coming nations with healthy and powerful economies.

I know the Incans were communists but I think communism would only work in primative or small societies or something.

Communism. The state owns everything. The state makes all your decisions for you, the state owns you, your career, where you live, what you eat, how much you will pay for everything. The state provides everything for you. All you have to do is be loyal to the state and they will not kill you.
