This is an interesting site!

All of the pictures have something to do with manufacturing weapons of war. Constructing ships that are larger and deadly, and muskets with greater firepower. The interpretation is that since these are the pictures the general public saw of the comming Civil War they weren't prepared for the ammount of death these weapons would cause.

Many historians argue that the Civil War was the first modern war American's experienced. Matthew Brady was a famed Civil War photographer who took pictures of camp life

here's some about him from the same site you referenced
http://www.sonofthesouth.net/civil-war-pictures/photography/photographers.htm

The problem is these pictures were still pretty tame and didn't depict the horror the war truly caused

on this site are some actual battle pictues Brady took

For the public today images of war are extremly common. This wasn't so during the civil war and really opened up people's eyes to what war was like.

Hope this helps! You can go very in depth with this project Good Luck!
