I have a male bearded dragon and i have it in a glass tank with a wired top with a heat lamp i keep on all time around, and another light i turn on in the morning and turn it off in the afternoon for him to sleep (i am suppose to turn it off for him to sleep?). When both lights are on durring the day the temp reaches about 100 degrees and when only the heat lamp is on in the afternoon the temp reaches to about 70 degrees( is that fine for the lizard?) I was wondering if there is a time period where i am suppose to keep just the one heat lamp on and the other one off so my lizard can "hibernate" like in the winter or some other time? or should i always turn on the one lamp in the morning and turn it off in the afternoon with the heat lamp always on?

(you can email the answer as well to HooTrain05@aol.com, please... thank you.)

The heat lamp should be on for about 10-12 hours a day and the basking spot should reach 100F. The temp should be in the high 80's to low 90's at one end of the tank, and low 80's to hight 70's at the other end. This provides a temperature gradient and allows the dragon to self regulate his temperature. No lights should be on at night. If the house temp drops to below 60F, then use a ceramic heat emitter for additional warmth. The UVB bulb (necessary for calcium metabolism) should be on the same amount of time. Use timers to simulate a more natural day/night cycle.
