Siddhartha by Herman Hesse--It is about the spiritual path of the Buddha. Short, easy to read and the best book ever.

A lot of authors tend to have really interesting life stories. Edgar Allan Poe's, for example, is fascinating - and if you're a fan of his writings, it gives a lot of insight into why he wrote long tragic pieces like 'The Raven' and 'Annabel Lee'. Big-name authors -- classics and that sort of thing -- will probably be the easiest to find things for. Check your school library first if you're going to do an author -- a lot of junior- and senior-level English courses require term papers, and so the libraries will either have author biographies or index books where you can look up the titles of author biographies.

Or think about your interests - do you love music? Do a classical composer. They're interesting too - some insane, some deaf, some daft enough to drink water without boiling it first during a cholera epidemic. Is history your thing? Pick a king, queen, president, Prime Minister, activist, war hero, shady figure, anyone. I've written papers on Napoleon, Winston Churchill, and others, and I've found that they all led fascinating lives.

Or just go to the biography section at your library and look through it until the title or subject of one catches your eye. They're organized by subject too, which usually helps.

Is an autobiography okay? If so, I'd suggest one of those. Many memoirs are written chronologically, so they're almost like a novel. A few really well-written ones that I've read are "The Jew Store" by Stella Suberman and "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls.

How about a biography of a favorite historical person? Or of your favorite author? Choose a period of history you're particularly interested in and ask again.
