His stats speak for themselves. As for the betting - who cares? It was a minor offense of an antiquated rule. He bet on himself to WIN. That doesn't change how you play the game... it can only make you play harder. There really is no other way to look at it. Rose needs to be put in ASAP.

Yes...If Barry Bonds can set the HR Record on steroids, why can't Pete Rose go in the Hall of Fame for gambling?

IF baseball allows Bonds McGwire Canseco Sosa Palmeiro and any other juiced up idiot into the HOF then they better allow Pete Rose into the Hall....His stats speak for themselves and he did not use steroids!!!!!
BONDS and company broke the rules and MLB has done nothing about it...They made an example out of Rose well lets make an example out of the juiced up players that are still playing and those who have records!!!

No, no, no.
He knew the rules, he gambled, he lost. The fact that he is Pete Rose has no bearing on the situation. If Timo Perez did the same thing, would people be standing up demanding he be reinstated? He was a great player, but when he screwed up he screwed up big time. Sorry, Pete. Buy a ticket to get in just like the rest of us.

Gambling on baseball is the same thing as treason by a general.
Put him in after we put Benedict Arnold on the dollar bill.
And please remember that he lied about gambling (knowing that it means an automatic ban for life), kept lying about it for about 20 years, then wrote a book to make some money where he admitted he had been lying all along.
If gambling on baseball is an antiquated rule, so is the Bill of Rights, the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the Law of Gravity.

I would love to say he should be, only because of the stats he put up, but their are other rules to consider to elect him to the hall of fame. One of the requirements of getting into the hall is protecting the integrity of the game. His gambling on baseball hurt the integrity of the game, because he could have tried to influence games the wrong way.

He knew if he was caught betting on baseball he would be banned for life.
+
If you're banned to life, you aren't eligible for the Hall.
=
Pete Rose knew if he was caught he would not be eligible for the Hall.
He still bet on baseball, and was caught.
+
He accepted a lifetime ban in exchange for baseball not releasing the finding of the Dowd Commission's report on him.
=
No Hall of Fame for Pete Rose.
Ever.

Banned for life! That's the ruling by baseball. He would have to apply for reinstatement before any HOF consideration could be brought to the table. He is free to apply but he will never be reinstated.
His numbers are worthy of the hall but his integrity, or lack of, is not. You can't break the cardinal sin of baseball and expect to be forgiven.

Pete Rose deserves to be in the hall of fame. unfortunately due to the agreement he made with baseball will probably keep him out for a long time. on that note if they ever do let him in they must allow shoeless Joe Jackson in as well. its a shame for both of them

No, he cheated, thats the way it is. When you are little you learn if you cheat on a test you get a 0, well when you cheat on baseball you deserve nothing! No hall of fame for cheaters.
