I have been there 10 years. And again some ppl have it and she won't let anyone else have it...reason unknown???

No I do get paid w/a paper check have been since I have worked there...and I actually did have direct deposit years ago with them. And its not just me there are other ppl that want direct deposit as well

It would depend on the reason why they are refusing to direct deposit your check. For example, it would be illegal for an employer to refuse to direct deposit checks for employees because they are over 40, disabled, female, black, or Muslim (all would be members of :"protected" classes), but it would not be illegal to offer direct deposit as a benefit for management level employees only. Employers could legally choose to offer direct deposit for only one bank (the bank where they do business for example); or they could decline to provide direct deposit to an employee who frequently changes bank accounts.

Should it be illegal? A private employer should be able to do just about anything they want. It may be unfair, but illegal is an entirely different thing. There is no guarantee of things being fair.

I'm sure that the current legal system would probably find it illegal but in reality it shouldn't be. If you don't like the job, don't like what they offer as far as pay or benefits (or how you get paid) then simply quit and find another job.

He might be doing you a favor by not doing it. Your employer might have information on the bank or location you want direct deposit and wants to avoid problems but can't tell you. Ask your employer why you're unable to have your request approved. Don't use raciest or other things that will make it a bigger problem than what it is now.

Only if he bases the decision on a protected characteristic such as race or sex.

"Direct Deposit is only available to managers and above" or "Direct Deposit is only available to employees who've been on staff over a year", or even "Direct Deposit is only available to employees who are Dallas Cowboys fans" are all perfectly legal.

Your employer is required to pay you. How he does it is not in regulation.

Unless you can claim, your employer is discriminating you due to well-established criteria (gender, color, etc) in not giving you the privilege, it is not against the law.

Perhaps you might want to ask for a reason why you cannot get it, then go from there. Always try to negotiate and discuss the matter over with your employer, rather than immediately going to the law.

Nope, they can do what they want. Did you ask why? Maybe the other employees have been there longer than you....or maybe they're full time......

its not illegal,,,but yehhhhhhhh,,i;ll be curious too ,why he or she is not treating me the same as others,,maybe the boss is doin a tax scam,,where there are no records of your payment

Its discrimination,no employer can treat one employee different in there rights then the other.Discrimination is against Federal Law.Call an attorney.
