Everything I have read bout him make him seem pretty great. He created a massive empire in only 12 years, Let the people he overtook keep their culture and believed learning was important. He also helped spread Greek culture throughout the empire. He died at age 32 though, possibly from too much alcohol. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

First and foremost, he left no clear successor. As a result the empire he built fell apart, and he accomplished nothing lasting.

It is the first duty of a leader to select and train possible replacements. Tyrants like Alexander fear to promote someone with ambition, but the duty remains. The greatness of the Roman Empire was sustained for centuries because more often than not the Emperor adopted a successor and trained him to do the job.

When Alexander failed to do so he made a civil war inevitable, and in such a new empire this would mean dissolution. This indicates that Alexander was not a statesman, but only a general.

He was a drunkard, prone to drunken rages. Two unfortunate results of this were the killing of Cleitus and the burning of Persepolis.

Killing people isnt all that great. But its hard to rule without it. Read the wiki site and decide for yourself. Its YOUR homework I assume.

He expanded his empire, but killed a lot of people (sometimes ruthlessly) without sympathy.
