Mike Modano: lost his captaincy and has been demoted to the fourth line. The fans seem to love him but management doesn't seem to and perhaps he'll get fed up with it and ask for a trade before the deadline?

Jaromir Jagr: He doesn't seem to have any chemistry with his new teamates. Factoring in his age, do you think the Rangers will try to get rid of him to add some youth?

Any other players you can think of in the same scenario? Sergei Fedorov maybe? Mats Sundin even? (Hey, you never know. Just look at Ryan Smyth last year.)

Modano's not going anywhere
- his contract expires at the end of next year (the year after that is an option)
- one of his two goals for this year was to become the leading US scorer
- as for his becoming a 4th liner - you seem to be the only one who thinks that ..........he's been 3rd or 4th in minutes per game for Dallas the last 6 games, that equates to being a 1st liner..........and so far through the entire season he is 3rd on Dallas in ice time

Modano's not going anywhere. At least not at the team's behest. The Stars are exposed in too many mays to risk alienating their agitated fanbase by moving the face of the organization.

Modano will play out his contract, continue as an ambassador for the club as well as the sport. He is not the problem in big D. In fact, he is the donut, not the hole. Maybe Brett Hull can surround his old buddy with some skill for Modano to work with.

As for Jagr, I don't think he's untouchable by any means, but it will require a number of stars to align for him to be traded. I still maintain LA is the most likely partner on this one. The Kings need a big-time name and have the assets to peak the Rangers interest should they be remotely inclined to move their captain.

Lastly, if Jagr were to be traded, it would likely signal multiple transactions by the Rangers. Jagr, the assets secured by moving him and the cap space opened up could be translated into a top d-man, a scoring forward and some additional utility talent for playoff depth.

If the Rangers haven't sustained some offensive flow by a January timeframe, this kind of talk is likely to get louder.

I doubt Modano or Jagr will be moved. For one thing, those two will eat up a lot of room on the salary cap. No team would want to pay for an underachiever like Modano. As for Jagr, I don't think Rangers will trade him because all they have to do is let him have the puck and he'll do his magic. He hardly needs teammates. Fedorov, don't know about him. Columbus is doing pretty well. They might not want to make changes. And Fedorov's salary is a pretty big cap hit as well. Sundin, definitely not. He's the heart and sould of the Leafs. And besides the Leafs just got Jason Blake to play with him. They have hopes that this duo will lead them to the playoffs.

Modano - no. he will retire a star.
jagr - no. he's got a tricky contract, where the rangers pay half (a little under $5m) with Washington picking up the other half. if he is dealt, his new team will take a $9m cap hit.

Fedorov - doubtful. hes a leader on a young team. he also gets paid for the talent he once showed. maybe a trade deadline deal if columbus finds its way to the cellar by then.

sundin - doubtful. also depends on how the leafs do. this trade has been rumored for years. the team has a few D to trade before they get rid of mats.

Ugh, I'm hoping Jagr gets traded.

He's been close to worthless most of this season. Yeah, he's not clicking with his linemates (Dubinsky's been playing well with him, but that's not Jagr, that's Dubinsky), and has been providing almost no scoring. He's on pace for 100+ shots less than he had the past few years, and many fewer points. He always seems to try to work past every opposing player, and consequently loses the puck, when a simple pass would do.

He needs to step up his game. Rangers fans in the know are not happy with his play so far this season.

Though the rest of the team has started to click offensively, and has been playing great...

That being said, I don't think it will happen.

I think they is no chance of Mike Modano getting traded, he just became the american leading scorer, and often scores a goal or gets an assist and wendsday night they are having a tribute night for him. They is no chance of a trade and he will retire before being traded, he has been with the Stars franchise since it began, and he is there most reliable player. I am from dallas and have experienced this first hand. He got a standing ovation against the Flyers. Modano Rules Forever!!!! As for Jagr, i dont see rangers games enough.................

Modano might be hard to trade even if they wanted to, he has declining skills and the two years left on his contract after this year would scare teams off.
Jagr probably has more of a chance but a huge salary which not many teams could afford. The NYR have to upgrade their D but at the expense of their highest scoring forward when they can't score might seem to be fixing one problem while creating another. Also, the NYR should be buyers come deadline time, not sellers, as a team like the Oilers were last year.
That may have to be the first thing to look at, who will be out of the race far enough to have a fire-sale. Guys like Jovanoski (Phx) probably will go but again a high salary. It would make sense for Sundin to get traded and if it were not the terrible Leaf management, he would be high on my list of people to be moved. McCabe too maybe?
Parity makes it so hard to know who will for sure be out of it. Anyone on the LA Kings blueline would be attractive to contending teams.

Slim to none for Modano. Probably the same for Jagr as well.

Besides, when a person think of the Stars, the first player he/she thinks of is Mike Modano. He's hands down the face of the Dallas Stars.

It's kind of ironic, apparently Mark Madden of ESPN radio said that he asked Jaromir Jagr if he'd ever play for the Pittsburgh Penguins again and Jagr supposedly said that maybe he'd finish his career up in Pittsburgh next season.

Two things, 1) I didn't hear exactly what Madden said, because I don't care for Mark Madden, and 2) who knows if Mark Madden is twisting Jagr's words or not.

At this exact point in time, I wouldn't mind trading veteran Mark Recchi. Who knows though, in a week he could get his game back.

yea Madano lost his captain ness but do you really think the Stars can afford to lose someone who will probably go down as one of if not the greatest american born player? Plus they trade him they will never score any goals and Turco is amazing but he cant win all the games for them
