this is a good question.

We give more money to corporate welfare than ALL social programs combined.

I think secretly they are ticked they have to work hard and therefore they pick on a group of people and like to believe they are all generically bums and lazy people looking for a handout instead of a myriad of individuals with many different stories so that they can feel better about themselves that they work..it is really all a bout pride.and gaining it by putting others down to elevate their own status in their own eyes..

Most of the people benefiting from social programs are actually the working poor. Walmart's actually trains manager to encourage the workers to apply for anything they are eligible for --from WIC, school lunches. medicaid, food stamps and so forth.

A study of 13 states showed that in 12 of the 13 states, Walmart's employees topped the list of recipients for social programs. This subsidy of Walmart's employees by taxpayers for Walmart's allows them a competitive edge over other companies that pay a decent wage and health insurance,.

By not paying a suffiicient wage and health care, this overloads and overwhelms the social programs originally designed for those in need of help..

Also takes it away from the disabled and people in temporary situations as when mega numbers of people are on these programs, people get mad and congress cuts the programs or as happened in Dec 2006, with the reverse Robin Hood bill, they cut 50 billion from programs like medical, veterans benefits, child support enforcement, education, school programs and housing programs in order to appear to be balancing the budget and addressing the huge deficit caused in large part by the war..then turned around 3 weeks later and passed 70 billion in tax cuts for he rich..the cuts to the poor were just to subsidize the tax cuts to the rich (the rich never sacrifice it seems in time of war..not money, not children..so that congress could look like they are doing something..it is easy for them to make cuts to people who everyone hates..and who don't subsidize their campaigns funds with mega bucks and bribes.

We give far more to these corporate welfare giveaways than we ever did to the middle class and poor and all the programs combined but noone seems to care. the fact that CEO's make hundreds of times more money than their employees does not cause the flicker of an eye.

The moral party and the religious right unlike Jesus who they claim to follow love the rich and hate the poor..the Lord tells usto do the opposite..this hatred for the poor who Jesus so loved makes them seem mean and hypocritical. Yet this has nothing to do with morality but only some grudge they have that the poor should get any thing without working,.

The bible says if someone asks you for a coat, give them a hat too and that God loves a cheerful giver..this is social justice..which the democrats support traditionally .it says what we do to the least of these we do to Jesus and at judgement he will say whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto me. It says God loves the poor and this was talked about in the new testament more than any othe topic except salvation. It says it is harder for a rich man to get to heaven than a camel through the eye of a needle. maybe it they knew more poor people and heard their stories they would gain some compassion..the Christian republicans I know extremely hate the poor..looking on them with anger, disgust and disdain...this includes my church going relatives.

I think they feel it is ok to help the poor with churches or individually but not by the government...then let them do the same with corporate welfare..lets let churches and individuals help the poor big guys..

They do not care or understand that to a disabled person getting food stamps, housing and SSI, this is an amount of money when multiplied by all the people in need each month that this amounts to more money than churches and individuals can give..even now these sources of aid are strapped due to the great need. You might be able to give $25 a month to one person..can you give the $630 a month that one disabled person gets from the government.

I, as a born again christian, would far more wish to help needy people, many of whom are children, than the big rich corporations who pollute our environment, outsource our jobs, cheat their workers, and gouge the public..

Because the poor don't put money in their pockets like the super rich, big business and lobbyists. They couldn't give a flying fig about the poor. They don't even have to worry about them voting for them.........they have Diebold and Diebold fixes the elections. We're all fugged!

Additional Edit: What they do have to worry about is revolution. But the Supreme Court is hearing a case on the right to bare arms, it will be interesting to see how the Neo Con judges vote. We'll know the ugly truth with that vote.

I guess you are talking about the break for the Enron types concerning the bankruptcy laws and what they did to the general population. That took both parties and both parties got paid well by the banking and finance lobbyist for that one. Check out the book Outrage, by Dick Morris entire chapter devoted to that.

If you are talking about the "death tax', heck that's been scam for years with the 'limited partnerships". One day the IRS will really check that stuff out, instead of thinking the integrity of theCPAs and lawyers that handle it or on the up and up and they will have a 50% field day.

If you are talking about programs for the poor, you got to be kidding, this administration has being throwing out more cash than anyone before, including "I feel your pain". This admin is more lose with money than the Democrats and that's spooky.

Do some research and you'll see what I mean. Take cre.

Welfare for Billionaires....That's what the farm bills are all about. Designed to prop up commodity prices-Read make my bread more expensive. Purported to help the poor family farmer. Hmmm Paul Allen, Billionaire, Scotty Pippen, Multimillionaire, Yep those guys need the help. Geez without it, they would still be hiring illegals to pick the crops!!

Do we have the bucks to buy health insurance for the working poor (SCHIP)? No....Have to tighten up the means test according to Bushie. Well the Means test for the guys above is pretty dang high if you ask me.

Time to come back to the America I was raised to love. The one that wants to improve things for the next generation.

Not all republicans are FOR welfare for the rich
and big corporations!! I am a republican and my friends and my family help the poor every week by donating our time to the helping of various food pantries and kitchens and donating food and
medical assistance to the poor and disenfranchised!

Both parties are the same! It is like watching world wide wrestling...it is all an act...They are all working together to steal you blind and enslave you to the Fed. Reserve Bankers and all you people do is squabble! It is sick! Pay attention to the votes! Look up HR 1955 and tell me you have any liberties left after it passes the Senate...and I will laugh my *** off!

I'm guessing the "welfare" of which you speak are the famed "Tax Breaks." Consider this. Who creates jobs? For whom do you work and collect your pay? Even if they were not given those tax breaks, the cost would just be passed down to you the consumer. If they are creating jobs, are they not helping the poor? If you teach them to fish they can eat a lifetime. If you only give them a fish, they will only eat for a day. Which would you rather? Eat for a day? Or, eat for a lifetime? Your version of "helping" is little more than slavery and enabling. Your version of "help" only keeps them dependent upon government handouts.
The quip about their "choosing" to be poor is simply this: We have a Universal Education System in place -- it's mandatory that all attend. With "free" education and with mass media demonstrating all sorts of success stories and how things SHOULD be (ideally), they still refuse to learn. They continually make bad decisions. The more bad decisions one makes, the less options are made available to them. It's like the freedom which Jefferson wrote of in the Declaration of Independence. He spoke of money. The more you have, the more options are made available to you. The less you have, the more you are enslaved to your creditors. Welfare is enslaving. On average in the U.S., people pass up about 90 opportunities a day. You make poor choices/decisions, you choose to be what you are. I choose to work 12-14 hours a day, six days a week and my profit margins demonstrate the results of my efforts.

Look at how much they are taxed already!!!!

It's sick! Yes, they make more money than us. But if you are handing out like over 50% of your money, and watch it be wasted on failed policies to help out the poor (which will always be present in society) why WOULD you vote to up that amount???

You think rich people are terrible people to want lowered taxes... but they're just being honest, in the fact that they are not the ones who should be paying for things like Hillary Care.

This Republican doesn't want welfare for anyone, except for workfare and welfare for the most truly needy (the elderly, the handicapped, etc).

$10 trillion in debt. Time to tighten the belt a little.
