No, but you do need to pay someone for regular cable or dsl service(usually your cable or phone company). If you already have cable/dsl, just buy a router and you'll get wireless internet around your house at no extra charge.

No. The router connects to a modem (either cable or DSL or whatever your ISP provides). Think of the router as the base of a cordless phone and your computer as a handset.

Wireless networking (802.11) is completely different from wireless (cel) phones.

No. Just hook up the router to your internet modem, then configure the wireless to your computer
