Ehh, that by itself isn't enough to freak me out, at least so long as it *remains* small talk, as in calm, quiet, polite and respectful. -_-
It becomes a problem though when people get all in a passionate uproar about a) nit-picky details, and b) trying to convert or persuade me to their way of thinking. I really *really* don't think a stranger has *any* right to really get in my face about these things. He can believe in what he does, let *me* believe in what I do, ok? This is what gets to me a LOT about most fundamentalist religions of all sorts...
The behavior, the "convert or be condemned" stuff, or the nit-picking just to prove someone wrong, is *really and truly* disrespectful of the intelligence and free will another person *has* as an adult human being. At that point it's *stopped* being a civil discussion, and started to become a *show of dominance*, you know? I mean, look...
I rant about and diss G.W. Bush every chance I get, ok? He's an imbecile and has proven it time and again. The track record is there that he's been an alcoholic and addicted to cocaine. But....
I *never* diss him for his faith. To my best recall I never have, I never have attacked him for "talking to God". That's just the intellectual equivalent of punching a man in his gonads, repeatedly...it says more about the lack of respect the person attacking is dealing with, than it does about the target of the attack.
And if I can show *him* that much courtesy (or at least try to), then you'd think the fundies could show *Me* the same level of courtesy, especially when they are total strangers.
But then again, I admit to some touchiness on the issue. ^_^
I have a neighbor or two in my building....and I sort of know them, so I know what to expect, that they will discuss and debate some *very* complicated and *very* involved things about both philosophy and faith and where the two overlap. It can get worse than _The DaVinci Code_ between those two sometimes, and I already know this. ^_^
But still, with one of the fellows, I do have to *remind him* fairly often to not get too intense and yell at me over his convictions. -_- And it stinks really, the fellow is in many ways a deeply compassionate person and a decent, if troubled human being. He's smart....he know's what he's doing. But....I don't like it when a discussion degenerates into his preaching and ranting, and I especially don't like being yelled at over something *outside* of my own sphere of influence or control or expertise. Again, it's a case of keeping it a civil discussion versus a pissing contest, or someone having to be the Alpha Dog.
So yeah, if it's "metaphysical small talk" from a *stranger*, fine, keep it *small talk* and don't yell or get your rant on. How hard can this be, really? ^_^
Thanks for your time....good Question! ^_^

Uh, I do a doudle take, pay attention 4 3 seconds, and flow on. Why difficulty intruding a private communique. Plus, that is pointless. i'm constantly previous due for sophistication, and my instructors are rather POd with me, and that i in my opinion attempt to get to classification on time. 3 detentions is adequate for me. I slept via all 3, yet had college-correct nightmares afterwards. U comprehend, taking a try in a straightjacket (the place a lot of human beings here belong in), my instructor transforming into a deamon and gutting me, ect. And, sure, i'm fairly advantageous I grew to become into an emo without noticing. Oh and Shadowmist, i'm going to upload that city to my checklist of places to, properly, how do I say this, sparkling up, in approximately ten years. once you notice some ninja dude in black, with 2 sicknasty katana, do not stand in my way.

I am a metaphysician. So are my 2 best friends, one of whom is a minister. That is 75% of our conversation.
It generally attracts rather than repels strangers. Everybody is searching.
