My car was towed for not having insurance, I paid the insurance but now my license is "supposedly" suspended. The police let me take my car; only to pull me over a mile down the road for having a suspended license. Is this legal on there part?? Please provide any websites that may help also. I live in Massachusetts. Thanks a lot!!

PS: It's been a rough couple weeks.......

I did not know my license was suspended. I got no notifications in the mail or anything, I figure the police would let me know that prior to me driving out of THEIR PARKING LOT!! I have no reason that I know of to have a suspended license!

In most jurisdictions the tower is suposed to check your license before letting you drive off.

That they didn't, though, doesn't mean the cops can't pul you for driving on a suspended license.

If it had only been a day or so, though, you might have a defense that the State had not yet notified you that you were suspended.

If you knew you license was suspended and still drove your car, you are at fault the the police. You should have had a legal licensed driver to drive your car.
Sorry, hope the fines are not to large.
good luck
