True, cyclones are below the equator and turn in counterclockwise direction, where hurricanes are above the equator turn in clockwise direction.

As you have not mentioned in which hemisphere the storm forms,I take it that it applies to both hemispheres and in that case the statement is false.Of course your statement is true as far as the Northern hemisphere alone is considered.
