Let me add that he is taking honors classes and holding an A average. In addition, he would only work on the weekends. We live in NY and I am a school nurse and sign working papers every day for kids from 14-17. Thank you to everyone who gave good honest answers.

Some fast food restaurants will hire 14 year olds. Try your local community centers i.e. YMCA. Also try the parks department they might have some jobs for teens. Volunteer work might be the best way to go for now so he can put that on a resume or application. Hope that helps.

I know in California that you can't get a work permit until you're 15 or 16, unless you work on your parents farm or something. I don't know many places that would hire that young. Your best bet is to have him work for a family friend, someone you know and would be more willing to hire him than a McDonald's. That way, it'd be kind of low stress, and he wouldn't have to work with complete strangers. Or he could do volunteer work, although he'd probably want some money. ;-)

Well, i do not know of a place that will hire 14 year olds. But, he can start babysitting. Or when he turns 15 he can become a lifeguard. Also, at 17 he can work in a store. hope this helps.

it depends where you live. like what area. but the easiest places are private store. mostly things owned by a family. big chains aren't allowed to hire anyone under the age of 16. i would look around the area you're willing to drive him to work and find a shop that looks friendly, they always hire younger children part time. also restaurants. just little stuff though. nothing corporate run.

i do know that depending on where you live that you can talk to the school and they will give you a work permit at that age. There are only a few people who will hire you at that age but just look arond. As long as he has a work permit he shoudl be able to find something

You could have him detassel, but don't let him get a real job. It will ruin his life. He will have no time to play. Let him wait for a year or two then he can work at like fast food or something. Trust me on this. My brother made that mistake.

Why not start his own business. Buy him a lawnmower and send him out. Lots of kids make tons of cash mowing lawns.

Hard to get a job with child labor laws, but everyone uses their own kids for labor and gets away with it.

I have been told that Chick-Fil-A will, but this requires a special permit and a very mature 14 year old.
