Christmas I think, cos everything is shut and you can only amuse yourself by coming online or watching tv, which is all christmassy so i think it'd be pretty depressing. Saying that ppl think it must be the worst, most loneliest thing in the world to be alone for Christmas but I think thats abit unfair cos it makes ppl who are alone on the day feel worse!

What I find distressing is that people keep saying stupid things like "they look cold/hard eyed" etc. How on earth can you judge someone's grief? Their composure is what convinces people that there is something "fishy" abourt them. However, I read a report which said that the McCanns were advised by the Portuguese police to appear calm and not to allow their emotions to show, as it could encourage the kidnapper of Madeleine, who might get some sort of thrill from their distress. The report went on to say that the parents frequently wept behind the scenes, after interviews, etc. If this is true, the police have done the parents a massive disservice. As a mother of four children, I can only imagine their grief and pain. Most people who do the same as the McCanns did that night (for whatever reason they did it) do not suffer the anguish that they will have gone through. I do not believe they are evil and will be very surprised if evidence materialises that shows they did the child harm, although I am prepared to accept such evidence. But in the meantime, wouldn't it be great if people just exercised a bit of restraint, stuck to the facts and avoided all forms of speculation?

I started to stop 'doing' christmas gradually 29 years ago and I absolutely love being on my own.
It never had much meaning for me as I am not religious but I started to hate the difference between the idea of it and peoples actual actions and feelings - good will was more evident at other times of the year.
Since then I have enjoyed any public holiday on my own because you have to give out to it to miss it, or believe something like everyone else is having fun with other people.

So I haven't got a worst - Out of them all I think I would prefer someone with me on my summer holiday.

I think Christmas and New year is always a bad time for people who are alone. This year I will be working in my friends restaurant on Christmas Day which means I get some company, a good time and a free Christmas lunch (and a few glasses of wine!) I'm on my own but I won't let it get me down. Life is too short! I live in Spain and my family live in Scotland. Hopefully my Mum will get here for New Years Eve and we can have a proper Scottish celebration!!

Christmas. This is going to be my first one alone ever.

I'm not shopping this year, not putting up a tree and I'll have to rent some movies, because EVERYTHING on TV is Christmas movies.

I have always decorated my front lawn with the reindeer. candy canes lighting up the walkway, etc.
the house was completely decorated w/ a big tree and I always cooked on Christmas Eve.
Lots of hustle and bustle and usually depressed the day of Christmas anyway, because it's all over in less than 6 hours for me.
My kids would spend the Eve w/ me then the morning w/ their kids and wife/husbands, then go to their dads around 2pm till late at night.

For over 18 years I would always go out to eat Chinese Food on Christmas day, the only thing opened and I was always alone. Now, I will be alone for all of it. I'm trying not to get depressed, but knowing all families are traveling to get to their loved ones. AND it's the longest Holiday.
I have always loved the Holidays, but now I'm just dreading it.

New Years use to bother me, but since we were "stampeded" at a fire works display, It doesn't bother me one bit, I'm usually asleep before midnite.

Christmas has to be the worse...... :(

Well I'm close to my family so I think that being by yourself on Christmas would be horrible. Christmas is the time for families to be together and enjoy each other. It's the time of year when you're supposed to have that warm feeling for each other and everybody really.

I don't care, any holiday where I'm left alone is good for me.

i was dreading this the most when me and my bf split, i always imagined just sitting with my son and feeling like crap, thankfully that wont be happening though!

All of them. Friends and family and fellowship is what holidays are all about, if no one is with you then no one cares about you.
