Crosby currently leads the second-placed Andrei Markhov by over 4,500 votes, more than double their difference. He also has over three times as many votes as Vinny Lecavalier, front runner for the Art Ross trophy. What amazes me is the fact the Sidney Crosby, although he is what he is, has 11 goals and 19 assists through 20 games. He's currently 11th for goals scored, and 3rd in points. I know the kid had an amazing season last year, but has he done well enough this year to deserve such a lead in the polls?

Not surprising.

Vinny Lecavalier is recognized as a great hockey player by hockey fans, but Sidney Crosby is a household name to those who aren't even hockey fans. I guess you wouldn't be calling him "Poster Boy" in your questions now, if he wasn't just that.

Sidney Crosby topped All-Star voting last season. He became the youngest to lead in that ever, I believe.

As for whether he "deserves" to lead in the polls... Who cares if he's the reigining winner of the Hart, Art Ross, and Pearson, eh? I say, who cares who's leading in points or goals now when those people might not be the same by the time the All-Star Game rolls around.

Know what's news? Mike Richards is 17th in voting and is a WRITE-IN candidate. He's ahead of players like Marty St. Louis, Brendan Shanahan, Eric Staal, and Thomas Vanek (he makes Vanek Money (TM) you know!).

HENRIK LUNDQVIST isn't leading in GAA, SAVE %, WINS, or SHUTOUTS and he's leading in votes for goaltenders in the East. Why isn't there any harping about that?

The fact that Crosby has this many votes shows that there are more people who watch the NHL who don't actually know what is happening. Crosby is just the type of player who will get all of the votes, because he is a great player on and off the ice. Even though he isn't the best, hockey needs a main man, and he is it. So, even though he doesn't deserve the votes as much as Lecavalier, Crosby is gonna get them. For the sake of the NHL.

As with most things, the media has ways of contorting things to get a desired effect. 90% of people have ZERO clue when marbles come down to brass tacks. All they have is what they are told. If the media or if the government tells them something that is what they go with. Crosby will ALWAYS be an over rated, pretty poster boy concocted by the powers that be. No matter the talent that Ovechkin,Thorton,Malkin or anyone else shows, they will not ever be as good because they are are not in the media light like that other hack is.

People are going to vote for the players that the NHL has chosen to market - it's as simple as that... and the NHL ALLSTAR game is a meaningless parody of the game of hockey anyway. So let Sidney get his votes and have his fun playing in a game where slapshots are not taken and contact is avoided...

Its not only what he does on the ice but what he brings to a team like the penguins. That is true leadership for a kid that is barely old enough to drink. Not to mention how having him on the ice is a nightmare for opposing defenses because you never know what to expect for him or how he will score on you so a lot of times defenders concentrate on keeping him away from the puck and leave an open man for an easy set up.

not numbers wise he has not earned that

but what i want to say is that this is awesome cause that means that the NHLs marketing of Crosby is working and getting people to love him (aparently), hopefully some of those votes are from new hockey watchers

zetterberg or lecavlier should be #1 if you want to choose the best so far

Easily, as the posterboy of the NHL, he is expected to be all things to all people.

Even I voted for Sid (but not Lecavalier)

Well, the All-Star game is for the fans more than for awarding a player for how they are currently performing.
