so i took it out the package and placed it in water but i read afterward that the wrapper shouldve stay on. l planned on letting it sit in brine for 24 but was unsure if it had to be change every so often to keep down bacteria or if the brine keeps it down. Somebody please help!

Thawing a turkey slowly in the refrigerator is much safer.....you did the right thing.

Thawing in water is just an emergency proceedure for people who forgot to put their turkey in the refrigerator.

Refrigerator thawing is much better. As long as the brine is changed often, and the turkey cooked enough, there shouldn't be a problem.

Use a thermometer to see if the turkey is done. It should be at 165 in the thigh and breast.

No your OK, as long as it gets thawed before you need to place it in the oven.
You can change the salt water if it make you feel better but is not necessary.
