Beef costs more to the consumer because it costs more to the producer, and there is slightly more of a demand for the product. Cows must have more room to roam and graize so there is some more expensive real estate. They also take much longer to grow and feed and therefore there is much lower turnover and a higher investment. If one cow dies that can be an expensive loss compared to the loss of a chicken. Chicken's can be mass produced and don't require much if any room to graize. A chicken has many chicks and often. They are often processed within a few weeks of hatching. There is also certain cuts of beef that are more desireable than others and are more expensive. Like the breast of the chicken is also more desireable and expensive. It is possible for the breast of a chicken to be more expensive than ground beef, but the premium cuts of beef like a filet are never as cheap as the breast.

Its because the cows cost more to feed and maintain than a chicken. You only get 2 source of food from a chicken eggs and meat. From a cow you get meat and milk. (which makes youghurts cheese also) Also a cow usually lives longer so needs to be fed watered etc more. There is also more butchering involved with a cow.

Because beef costs so much more to raise. A chicken is ready for market in a few weeks/months. Cattle aren't usually sent to market until they are two....they are larger, require more feed, more attention........
