It is in that state between dreaming and waking that people tend to "see" things. Perhaps it is a different state of consciousness, or a heightened ability to see things which are not ordinarily seen. Or maybe it's the dreaming state being carried into wakefulness.
There have been para-psychological studies done involving people at different stages of sleep. Maybe some of those have the answer.

People see stuff when they're waking up all the time. The reason is simple - your eyes aren't focusing well, and your brain isn't fully awake yet.
Since your eyes have been closed for some time, they aren't processing images clearly. Your brain (still halfway in a dream state) takes these blurry images and turns them into...whatever. Most commonly a humanoid image of some kind, as our brains are hard-wired to seek out human forms and faces.
I recall a vivid example where I saw a demon with glowing red eyes and mottled skin hovering at the foot of my bed, as real and three dimensional as anything. Of course, another night when I had not been asleep, I saw that it was a car's tailights shining through the ivy on my window. My mind turned inot something 'real', because I wasn't fully awake yet.

Things like that happen to me too and to my husband.
A chair at the table turned over by its self. I saw a person out of the corner of my eye and when I turned it wasn't there.
My husband saw an old lady in a black dress and he said she was very ugly.
My ex saw a clown in the hall.
Doors move by themselves with no wind/air
What we do is plead the Blood of Jesus over the house and tell the spirits that if they are evil they must leave. My husband told the old lady that he was a Christian and to get behind him.
We have a right in the name of Jesus to command these things to leave us alone. Whatever we bind on earth is bound in heaven.

More than likely it is because you have woken too fast, especially that you mention when you blink it is gone. Sometimes our dreams make us wake up and our mind is not ready. If we go to bed with too much on our mind then we will have sleepless nights.
on the other hand you could have a gift that you dont know how to control, dont be afraid you have the power, all you need to do is claim back your house in the name of Jesus.
Tell them that they are not welcome and do this in the name of Jesus. Remember that fear can manifest many things in your mind, there is nothing to be afraid of except fear itself.
Godbless...xx

Well, one night, i stayed up really late, just listening to my ipod in bed. i got so tired that i started hallucinating and saw my dad and my grandmother, who lives on the other side of the country, at the foot of the bed.
They were talking about marrying me off or something.
I blinked and realized that i needed to turn off my ipod and go to sleep.

It is likely that you are not quite awake and still either slightly dreaming or still asleep. Another alternative is that you do see some shadows and in your just woken state do not interpret them correctly i.e. you think that it is something else.

It could be a number of reasons - when you are tired you can hallucinate or get paranoid.
I get something horrid happen to me - where someone is pinning me down and i can't move - i'm totally paralysed - its so frightening. Its where half of your brain is shut down. Sounds like sleep paralysis.
Maybe you are psychic!! You could have this gift ;-)
