I bought a new carseat for $100 dollars.

If I want to buy a second base and matching stroller, itll be around another $100.

A woman is willing to sell me her used carseat, stroller and two bases for $75.. all in good condition.

Do you think it would be wise to just return the carseat I bought and buy the used things?
Im super low on funds.

How old is the used carseat? Each one is dated, so look on the back. Carseats expire in 6 years, since the structure of the plastic fatigues with time. The fatigue is worse if the seat is in extreme heat for a lot of its life, such as in a closed car in Miami or Galveston.

Has it ever been in a car accident? Recalled?

If the seat is 4 years old or newer and has never been in a car accident, it sounds like a great deal, and I'd go for it!

Good luck to you!

If you can still return it, go ahead. But for all those who read this to find out what people have to say, take the used one to the police station before you buy it, to have them not only check it out for you, but to make sure you know how to install it. They will be happy to help you, as that will mean they are less likely to have to deal with the consequences later. If you buy it used, from a private party, it will not be covered by warranty, but more important, you have no way of knowing where it's been....so just get it checked out by the safety experts first.

You not only have to make sure that it has not been in any accidents, you also have to make sure that the car seat is not more than 6 years-old. The belts and harnesses can wear out and they are not as safe. If they meet these guidelines go ahead and get the used ones. I was given a car seat/stroller combo from my boss, as her son is only a year older than mine.

If they are in good condition and have never been in accidents then I think it would be fine to return the new and buy the used. And yes, look at the date too.

as long as it's in good condition, then it should be fine. you don't need to have everything brand new for a baby, especially if you're low on cash. just check online, make sure there have been no recalls or anything for them since they were bought. you need to be extra careful when buying used baby items.

Absolutely! Is good to know how to bargain and besides you'll have $25 left to buy your baby a nice outfit too.

Take the woman's offer! Get more for your money!Doesn't seem like there's any sacrifice on safety here.If it's all in good condition -- go for it!

If not for second-hand items and hand me downs, we would've had a terrible time trying to raise our kids. if they are in good shape, get the used items - everyone wins.
