As you should be able to see by looking at one, a battery has two posts. One is positive (hot) and one is negative (ground). For any device to run it has to have a connection to both posts. To save on wiring the negative side of the battery is connected to the metal chassis on the car. All devices have the hot wire going back to the positive side of the battery, through the fuse box, and the ground wire of the device going to a spot on the metal of the car.

there are hundreds of hot wires and ground wires. eventually they all end up back at the battery. without a ground on a circuit the voltage cannot be completed and nothing works.

Basic electricity you have a positive (hot) and a ground (return) anything electric ANYTHING! has to have a power source, in a car, battery positive and a return battery negative, (GROUND)
starter, power comes from your battery to your starter, you turn your ignition switch, and energizes the starter relay or solenoid for the starter, sending current from the battery through the relay to the field windings in the starter and without getting into a really long winded explanation about the armature, this will turn the starter motor causing the engine to turn over.
simple terms, positive comes from the plus side of battery goes to starter or starter relay and ground comes for negative side of battery and goes to.......the engine, the body, the frame and fender. anywhere there is a chance that the current can go back to the battery
I really hope i didn't get too long winded.

Hot wire means "Live wire" usualy Red, Orange,Green, White. the one carrying the load.
Ground wire means "Negative" usualy Black, denuded as strap wire.

Earthing cables are used to carry the Negative current from Battery or Body to an accessory.

same as houshold stufs

You must be shrooming or high on some...

What kind of questions are those? You need a course on electricity first and later on cars. If I answer that, I have to give you a diploma.
