'Imagine' was on the radio and one of the lyrics goes, 'imagine no possessions.' Isn't this a bit rich from someone who cruised around in a white Rolls Royce and isn't this sort of hypocrisy that has created a malaise in today's sophisticated youth who can see through this false sentiment?

Yes I think John Lennon was a human being and a hypocrite.
He did in fact like material things, or probably more, that his wife (Yoko Ono) wanted these things. He actually had a couple of mansions one in England and one in America, he may have had other houses elsewhere. He was a very troubled man and also his wife (Yoko Ono) I think really ruled the roost, and he was a bit hen pecked.
His music was good though. But it just shows you do not put anybody on pedestal, they are only human. He was just a better musicmaker thats all.
I dont think you can blame this hypocrisy for anything today's youth do. As you say they are sophisticated, so they will follow their own path. I had not noticed any malaise. Michael it was George Harrison who wrote Something which I agree was a good song, even, I understand Frank Sinatra made a great version of it and said what a good song it was (sorry I digress).

I have no problems with John Lennon and his possessions. He was a pop star, after all. And yes, I do find it a bit rich that he could preach when his private life was so controversial. I've never liked "Imagine" personally. My favourite John Lennon song was "Mother" until I read the interviews with his son Julien, who said the hardest words I've ever heard: "I've had to accept that my father didn't love me."
So yes, I do believe that John Lennon was utterly selfish, and a hypocrite.

I imagine a lot, but often my "imaginings" are contrary to what I actually have or do.

Hypocrisy is in us all......The ancient Greeks had it so badly, they had to make the word for it, which we are now using on yahoo...... Amazing!! Imagine that!!

Nothing wrong with John Lennon. Yes he was rich and famous but so are many other overpaid so called artists. The Beatles can't have been that bad to be remembered this long. Not my kind of music but I do respect them. Was it John Lennon who wrote "Something" Great song.

People such as John Lennon cannot not win whatever they do.
Muhammad Ali summed it up well when he said " If I buy a Rolls Royce, I'm a hypocrite if I don't I am mean".

Not word for word but I hope you know where I'm coming from.
You cannot please everyone so you might as well please yourself.

OMG don't let today's youths hear you saying it - the last thing they need is another excuse for being such lazy, self obsessed, greedy little bug gers!

I see your point but when someone produces the fantastic music the Beatles did then we can forgive a little.

He had his dreams too, but like the celbs of today he bowed down to the pressures of being famous and had to have some pleasures in life instead of pleasing other people all the time with his music. However, I think he was really like that man behind that song imagine. Unlike Paul Mc who is the biggest hypocrite of all John Lennon was a real down to earth guy.
