No, he won't recall much. He will enjoy playing with the paper and checking out the lights on the tree. Put him in a cute outfit, get him a couple of little toys such as a teether and maybe an outfit he can grow into so he can have something to "help" open. You can take lots of pictures and enjoy. You can make a photo book on Snapfish or another photo website and get 2, one for mom and one for him when he gets older. As for the father dilemma, if the dad wants to spend time with his son and doesn't have a car, you can always bring him to your home for a few hours and then take him home.

You are right your child will most likely not remember this Christmas and the pictures will be valuable when he's older. If he doesn't need any clothing or other necessities, why not do something that will pay off in the future. ....and I do mean pay off. If you have the means, open a savings account or buy a CD, a few shares of stock or something similar. Whenever possible, add to it. You will be surprised how it will grow. By the time he is out of school he will have a nice account to use for school or getting started in life.

hm... i kind of know how you feel... i'm due December 14th... so may baby will really only be about a week old if he comes on time.
I just got him a few toys, nothing big. Just some car-seat clip-on toys and a mirror toy. Things I would have purchased anyways... but I might as well wrap them and give them to him for christmas. I of course bought him a stocking, so that will commemorate the event, as well. Get him a nice baby's first christmas ornament, or maybe a couple other ornaments. Those will be with him forever, and they will be special because they're his first.
And about the single mom thing... I know how you feel. I'm "together" but not with the baby's father. We're still in a relationship, but we don't live together (I still live at home with my parents + family), and he is Jewish anyways... but he wanted to spend Christmas with us, me and the baby, but it's just hard to do. Especially whereas I live with my family still... so its kind of a split. I still don't know how it's going to work out... I know my family will be ultra-annoyed if he comes over and spends the WHOLE day here, but I do want him to be able to spend SOME time (and be in some photos) with the baby because you only have one first christmas.
i hope it works out for you. i feel like the holidays are a tough time for just about everyone i know this year...
happy thanksgiving! and congrats on the baby!

What I did for my sons 1st christmas he was only 2 months old (this was last year) we bought him a tummy time floor mat and clothes and took him to get his 1st pic w/ santa. Theres no need to make a huge deal outta it because he won't remember but you can take pics to look back on the memories of his 1st christmas!

He won't know what's going on, nor will he remember it. So, decide what you would like to have to remember it by and do that. A family portrait in holiday clothes is nice, plus lots of pictures of him with family members.
