...decides to pick on your teammate who doesn't fight (for whatever reason), would you stick up for him/her, even if that means you will get hurt in the process?

No, Erica, you're not Lecavalier. And please don't ever imply that you can't kick anyone's ar$e. I've taught 5-foot-nothing, 100lbs soaking-wet girls self-defense (joint manipulations and pressure points, mostly) and one of them ended up taking down some 6'3", 200+lbs black guy. I was so proud of her...! *sniff* Point is, size does not matter.

I know, Erica, but it just annoys me when girls think that they have to be bigger than they are to get into a physical confrontation with someone. It's right up there with "Who's going to win the Cup?" or "Crosby or Ovechkin?" questions. It's like a rake going across the chalkboard. HATE THEM!!! lol

Andy...guy's wearing soft padding in the lower torso, and hard padding around the ribcages. How will you take him down if he can't feel your punches?

Question: am I Vinny Lecavalier?

If so, PUT 'EM UP!!!!

If I was me, no way. In fact, I'd tell me to run. Or I'd pull some Jarkko Ruutu stuff; like antagonizing the guy then leaping for the bench. Okay, well, Jarkko Ruutu never did THAT, but he did goad Peter Forsberg into hitting him when he was on the bench. I think I'd avoid doing that actually...

So I'd still tell me to run for my life.

ADD: I'll meet Puck half-way; I think everyone should defend themselves... but not everyone should defend themselves against Zdeno Chara. Yay for teamwork.

2eighty8 - I thought we were talking about a hypothetical hockey situation here. If this was a street fight, then yeah, I'd totally take someone. :P

Trust me, I have never let my shortness interfere with my confidence or my courage. I've been told I seem taller due to my attitude. I could probably use some humiliation. LOL.

When I played hockey, only the goalie didn't fight. All these untouchables make me sick. It's a man's game when you play full contact hockey and if you aren't capable of defending yourself, you should be playing with the ladies.

Wow, does that sound like Don Cherry?
If one of your smaller guys is getting pounded on by a bigger guy, it's your job to jump in unless the coach has given you instructions to do otherwise.
I was quite familiar with the timekeepers in a number of rinks, if you know what I mean.

Nope, drawing a penalty and then converting the power play would be the best revenge. The guy who is getting picked on should just turtle a la Kenny Linesman and then laugh at his tormentor as he is sent to the box.

When I was a pre-teen, I got attacked by some boys at school.

So, my father brought me out into the backyard, and taught me how to fight. I know, he'd probably be in the newspaper these days (Headline reads "Dad teaches daughter how to fight, now dad sits in jail"). Anyway, he taught me how to protect myself. I learned that if you don't want to break your hand, you go for the throat, and if you are getting raped, go for the jimmy or the eyeballs.

Yeah, I'd fight him. Hee. No, actually I take pride in having beautifully white straight teeth.......also, I like to be concussion free.

If you're playing a team sport, absolutely. If you do that, your teammates will stick up for you too. The key to fighting Chara is to get up under him and take away his leverage. Hit him with shots to the body and he'll eventually break down.

In lieu of manipulating Chara's joints or pressure points, I'd imagine the abundance of zeroes in my NHL paycheck would help build up my courage in that scenario.

It would certainly help with the ensuing welts and ringing in my ear, anyhow.
