I am 19 years old and my parents gave away our dog to the animal shelter. saying he found her in the parking lot, and I feel so bad and my friend is allowing me to keep it at her place until we find her a home. I just need to know how much would it cost to get her out of the animal shelter, and what do they need from me? I have all the papers, such as vaccinations and license but they are under my dad's name but I do have a receipt of when I took her grooming it says her name on it and mine. Will they give me a hard time? My parents don't know about this because they won't let me. It's the animal shelter in San Diego, Ca. and she's been there for 3 weeks now and no adoptions, I have been checking the website like 2 times a day. I went and visited her and she was going crazy barking and crying and jumping up and down, I care about her a lot and I just want to find her a home before they euthanize her
Also, how long do they keep them before euthanizing them?

There are 2 routes you can go. If you're limited on money, you'll want to know which will be less expensive for you.
1 - Call and ask how much it is to adopt a dog. You'll get a price - prob. betw. $50-$100 which will include shots and spay/neutering (or you may have to agree to spay her after adoption if she's not already spayed)
2 - Call another time and ask if your dog were picked up, how much would it be to get her back. There will probably be a per day rate (maybe $5/day) and there maybe other charges
If 2 is less, when you go to get her, show your papers. Since your name is on at least 1, and you have the same address as your dad on the other and you're over 18, I don't think you'll have any problem claiming her.
The sooner you can do this, the better. Some shelters have a set time that they keep an animal before euthanizing it, others will keep them till they get too crowded.
If your dog is a specific breed, check online for rescue groups that specialize in that breed. Often they have volunteers to foster animals until they can find permanent homes.
Best of luck!!!!

It will cost a lot more to reclaim her then it will for your friend to just adopt her...
Normally there's about a $5-10 a day charge... Find out what their adoption policies are before you guys head down there.. It looks like their adoption fee is $100 for adult dogs which is probably a lot cheaper then the daily rate to reclaim..
Sorry, my parents were the same way.. It sucks when you have heartless parents.. At least they dropped her off at a shelter.. My mom just had mine killed without even giving her a chance.. I hope your friend can adopt her, but, you''ll want to move fast.. 3 weeks is a long time for a dog to stay in a shelter, at least, it is anywhere I've ever been..

At age 19 does your state consider you an adult? The papers would be enough to claim the dog back, if you say she was lost and you've been looking for her. Each shelter holds animals for different amounts of time, so don't wait on this if you want her back. Take all the documentation with you, plus any photos you have of her. If they question your parents name on the papers, say your folks took her to the vets for you while you were at school, that's a perfectly legit answer.

3 weeks in the guard? WOW. They final 5 days right here earlier they get euthanized. to declare a dogs, you will possibly desire to teach possession. After that, they're going to charge you boarding fee and in all probability greater. in case you act such as you elect to undertake the dogs (like this wasn't ever your dogs), you will pay an adoption fee and sign a freelance (meaning you are able to't provide the dogs away afterwards). you're heading in a direction it is a protracted, complicated street crammed with heartache. you're no longer likely to be happy with the two of the recommendations the guard grants. that's extremely useful to call them and ask them questions, basically they are in a position to truly inform you what you elect to understand.

On my area, it is $60.00.
This is terrible. Can your friend do the formal adoption since the dog will be at her house?
You should act soon, as most shelters are NOT no kill, even if they don't do it there in their facility. They send the dogs to other facilities. Otherwise, they would have tens of thousands of dogs in there.
If she is not adopted, there is a very, very good chance she will be put down.
Sorry.

this is just wrong. I think you should go there and talk to them and explain the situation and i think you should then speak to your parents about why they did it?
