Yes, there is something you can buy.. an up to date computer. You most likely can add usb ports to your computer, but if is so old that it doesn't have any then they probably would not work very well if at all.

If you have a desktop computer, you can buy an add-on card that has USB ports. I've included a link below to a card that is what you are looking for. Having said that, if your computer is old enough to not have USB ports built-in, it is probably worth checking to make sure it has a PCI slot available, which is what you would plug the card in to. Without knowing what kind of computer you have, I couldn't say if you have a PCI slot or not. You probably do, but can't be sure.

If you got the computer from your mother's friend, he should know if you can put a USB card in to it. It's worth checking just to make sure you don't waste your money.

Are you sure you don't have any USB ports? Even older model computers should have at least 2+ USB ports. If not, the easiest thing to do is to install a PCI Expansion Card with USB ports. However, you will need at least one unused PCI slot on your motherboard. Installation is very easy. You open the computer case. Next, you find an unused PCI slot and insert the expansion card. After you are finished, you just put back the computer case. Expansion cards are fairly cheap. I recommend an online computer retailor like Newegg. Here is the website for available expansion cards:

Go to Newegg.com or similar online store.

If you have a desktop, search for USB card:

Hey you're in luck, $8 with $8 rebate, but $5 shipping.

This is assuming you have a desktop with an open PCI slot. If you have an older computer you may be able to find a different card for it used on Ebay etc.

If you have a laptop, and PCMCIA slot, then you need one like these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839200002

Note that last one is cheap after rebate, but it's got lower reviews so some people have had problems.

You really need to mention what your desktop or laptop is. If it's old enough to not have USB ports, it may not be able to use either of these..

You either got ripped off from a new computer or you have a really old computer.
You could change the input board and customize your computer with a usb hook up too.

For A desktop PC, get a 32-bit PCI USB Card.

Make sure you have a free PCI slot (its a thin white slot about 5-6" long.

You can buy pci USB boards and fit them. Do not expect to much success if this is a Windows 98 machine, it is no longer supported.

pass to the information superhighway internet site for the webcam and procure from there. in case you do not have information superhighway get entry to, pass to a distinctive device with a CD and replica it to a floppy - assuming the device you elect to place in it on has a floppychronic. whether that's merely too huge for a floppychronic you may get a application to separate the driving force into smaller floppy-sized products and use an identical application to place it returned at the same time on the device you elect to place in it on. SO, if the device has no CD, how did you get the appliance put in in the 1st place?
