Nothing is free. Universal care simply changes the way we pay for it. We are already paying for it. The largest advantages are that everyone pays, and people will not lose their coverage when they get sick.

What Michael Moore (who I see has influenced many answers already here) doesn't want to admit is that we currently do in fact have the best healthcare in the world. It is the highest quality. But unfortunately, some don't have access to it. The answer to the problem is not to completely revamp the system, but to take a gradual approach. The laws of capitalism proposed by Adam Smith in the late 18th century still hold true today, or at least the basic prinicples do. As competition rises, so too does quality, and the cost drops. Anyone who knows anything about economics knows that. Granted, there are corporations that take advantage of the system, and that is where the government steps in. But we don't need government run healthcare. So while Moore moves on to his next pet cause, we are left with people convinced that socialized medicine is the way to go, when in reality, the system only needs to be fixed, not turned upside down.

Yes, health care should be provided - and paid for by everyone. It is all well and good to say that private cover will cover people - try saying that if you develop a serious heart condition, invasive expensive to treat cancer or an on-going condition like Diabetes and find that your insurance will not cover you for long enough and will not renew because you are a health risk!

Private health care is great for the healthy, but get really sick and see what happens? In America, the richest country in the world, people still die because they cannot get enough cover - I would rather pay higher taxes - or better still, stop paying all the hangers on in government, stop fighting illegal wars and stop fixing things that 'aint broke and there would be plenty of money for the health service.

It's definitely time for universal health care and adequate care for all Americans and we need it NOW.

Why? Because we spend over $2 trillion for health care in the US, yet millions are still not covered or receiving the care they need.

The health care coverage in the United States is ranked #37 in the world by the World Health Organization and yet we spend almost twice as much as any other country, enough to cover everybody with excellent comprehensive healthcare.

A bill has been proposed in Congress, HR-676, non-profit Medicare for All, that outlines a national health care program that will provide guaranteed affordable health care and prescription drugs to everyone in the country.

Over 12,000 doctors have signed on in favor of this plan, including two former U.S. Surgeons General

Under this proposed plan, we can pay for a comprehensive national health care program with the same money we are now spending and cover every single person in the United States.

MOST IMPORTANTLY and we can ALL contact Congress now: Call on our members of Congress to pass HR 676, non-profit Medicare for All, so our people and our nation can have the excellent health care system we deserve. Health care is a human right, and we call on our members of Congress to recognize that right.

I urge every single American to contact their Congress person and get the ball rolling.

No, we shouldn't. I've worked very hard for the health care coverage I have. I do not want to end up increasing my taxes and losing my quality coverage because The government is running all the hospitals and clinics.

It's a nightmare in Canada. It would be a nightmare in the U.S.

There are VA hospitals, public health clinics, school nurses, medicare, medicaid and other programs to help those without health insurance. If it is an emergency, the laws protect the indigent by making it mandatory that ER's stabilize patients whether they can afford services or not.

I'm sorry if that doesn't meet the standards of those who feel they are too good to use these services. But, it is available medical help.

It's just like the legal system. You have a constitutional right to a defense attorney. You do not have a constitutional right to Johnny Cochran or F. Lee Bailey.

They can not manage Social Security, whom in their right minds believes their health-care will work.

Second, the government is to big as it is, we pay more taxes to give people jobs to make sure we pay taxes.

Our government is a joke, they reward the lazy and penalize those whom try to work hard and do the right thing.
Examples.
1. A life long working middleclass couple trying for the American Dream, they want to send their child to college, they apply for Grants to help but are told they make too much money even though they barely get by living a modist life and one parent is fighting cancer and can not work full time, Joe Blow neighbor down the road will not work, gets government checks, and their child gets a 100% free ride.
2. A couple find out today they are pregnant, and want to do the RESPONSABLE thing and get married and raise the child, they struggle and spend years paying for the cost of the new child, Joe Blow neighbor has been living with his girl for years now, she becomes pregnant and they do not get married and gets 100% free medical and expenses to cover their child.
3. A married couple has a child with a severe illness, they do have insurence with a 1 million dollar limit, the child is ill and is in the hospital for months, she is not suffering as long as she is in hospital care although death is un avoidable, and the insurance is about to it's limit, a health-care worker sits the family down and tells them the only way to get help in easing their childs pain is to file for divorce, get on welfare, medicad, and start receiving the so famous "Government Check", quote "to work the system". The child happens to pass away before the need to preform the act is the only option, even after the account, the health-care advisor tells them they still can follow through with the procedure and get $20,000 dollars from the government, the couple refuses and goes back home, broke and four months behind on all payments, the moral of this story is how many people will go the easy way and the honorable and responsible people get the cold shoulder from the Government.

All three examples I can say are facts and have happened. My point is the government's view is if you work hard to succeed, you can afford the hardships, but if you are lazy, you need help. The sad part is the hard working ones are the ones paying for the lazy, but gets the tough love from our government.

In short, all universial healthcare will be is more of a burden to pay in taxes for the hard workers. Only in life, with our government, does being lazy and not responsible get you rewards and working hard and doing the right things gets you smacked in the face. And we wonder why people do not want to work, hummmmmmm......................
